Brooke Kaveney  -   Effect of tillage on seedbed preparation in Rice/Shrimp farming systems of Vietnam

In 2015 CSU Honours student, Brooke Kaveney spent 5 months in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta studying the effectiveness of different soil preparation techniques on soil salinity. The rice/shrimp system relies on rains to wash salts from seawater inundation  from the rice fields. Brooke created novel methods to measure salinity in the soil solution in pot and field experiments testing various methods of soil preparation available to rice/shrimp farmers in Vietnam. Brooke will discuss the issues faced in the rice/shrimp farming system and how her work has contributed to solving some of the problems faced.

David Gale  -  The potential of compost to ameliorate metal toxicities and increase phosphorous availability in Vietnamese agricultural production systems
